Teacher Feature - October

This month's Teacher Feature is Mrs. Amanda Sechrist. Mrs. Sechrist is an exceptional children’s teacher at Tharrington Primary School. She took a moment to answer some questions for us. Check out what she had to say!

What is your educational background? I received my K-12 Elementary Education, with K-12 Special Education degree from Lees-McRae College. I have also earned my National Board Certification in Exceptional Needs Birth- 21.

Where do you teach? What grade level(s) and subject area(s)? I am an EC Teacher at Tharrington Primary School. I teach the most special (K-2) students with help of the best assistants - Mrs. Welch and Mrs. Chilton. We make a happy family.

How many years have you been in education? I have been in education 13 years!

Tell us about your family. I am married to the very funny and patient- Darren Sechrist. We have two children- Carlee and Connor. Connor is in 5th grade at the Most Awesome Intermediate School- Jones Elementary. His loves include football (#32), wrestling, reptiles, and his mom. (Ok, I may have just tacked on that last one.)  Next year, Carlee will begin kindergarten at the Most Excellent Primary School- BHT. Her loves include crowns, pink, and glitter.

What is your favorite part of the year and why? I love the activities, the smells, and the colors of Fall the most. In the Fall, we all get to start the year with a new “blackboard” and to be better each year.

Finish this statement: I teach because... it matters.  It matters to students, to parents, and to the community.

Ask your class or group of students to describe you using 3 adjectives. happy, mom, chocolate waffles
