Teacher Feature April 2019

What is your educational background? I attended Copeland Elementary (K-5), Central Middle School (6-8), and graduated from Surry Central High School in 2007. I began my college career at Surry Community and transferred to Appalachian State University in the fall of 2009. I am a proud graduate of the Reich College of Education, Class of 2011! Go APPS!

Where do you teach? What grade level(s) and subject area(s)? B.H. Tharrington, K-5, Exceptional Children's Teacher

How many years have you been in education? This is my 6th year in education.

Tells us about your family. My husband Adam and I have been together for 15 years. We got engaged in August of 2008, were married in 2012, and celebrated the birth of our first child, Christian Alexander, in March of 2018. I am also a daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, aunt, and cousin of an amazing family. I love spending time with family, going to church, watching App State football, UNC Tarheels basketball, and playing with my sweet baby boy.

What is your favorite part of the year and why? I absolutely love fall. The cool crisp mornings and the comfortable afternoons are my very favorite- pumpkins, Halloween, leaves, Thanksgiving, football season- it's all wonderful!

Finish this statement: I want to make sure that every child reaches their full potential. As a teacher, I feel like I can make a difference in the lives of my students in so many different ways.  Teaching is so much more than just instruction. All students are unique and look to us for guidance, motivation, or just for support. No matter what role we fill for these kids each day one thing is for sure- we play a very important role in keeping and setting future generations on the right path and that makes this job very rewarding.

Ask your class or group of students to describe you using 3 adjectives. good teacher, nice, funny
